I am firmly of the view that the GCBA understands Galway City’s underlying business requirements best. The association offers a balanced collective voice and is a proactive action group for the City’s business interests. It is driven by like-minded people who share a common goal - promoting business in Galway city while enhancing the Galway experience and brand. 

What is your vision for Galway?
Build on what is regarded as an established and successful brand - Galway City.
Primary focus on enhancing the EXPERIENCE in the:
    •    Short Term – the adoption of an improved transportation network strategy, commitment to refurbish Shop Street,  
    •    Medium to Long Term – the development of the outer bypass, the adoption of a sustainable redevelopment city centre strategy, the Greenway extension

Why are you involved with the GCBA committee?
I believe it is our responsibility as business owners to work together, as a collective voice for the community, on various issues that will promote our city as a great place to do business and also to visit. 

What is your vision for Galway?
My vision for Galway is to be a destination city for people to want to visit for our excellent retail range, local bars and restaurants, and a thriving city in which to do business. I would like to see an excellent transport system throughout the city with good cycle lanes built in. I would like to see a complete flow through the city where all areas work together to promote Galway as the best city along the Wild Atlantic Way. Coming up to Galway 2020 City of Culture, I believe the energy of the city will be electric and community spirit will be at an all-time high, giving way to an emerging new identity for this great tribal City of Culture.

Why are you involved with the GCBA committee?
As a fourth generation city centre retailer, I have a big interest in everything that goes on in the city centre and in ensuring that the city is a great place to visit for shoppers, workers and visitors.  I have a particular interest in working with the city council to ensure that the aesthetics of the city centre are maintained to the highest possible standards and that local family and Galway owned businesses are given an environment where they can flourish and create jobs.

What is your vision for Galway?
My vision for Galway is that it becomes the number one shopping destination in the west of Ireland, offering the best possible array of local and international shops while also maintaining its reputation as the most fun and exciting tourist destination in the country. Also, that Galway remains Ireland’s capital of culture and the arts.

Why are you involved with the GCBA committee?
I am involved with the committee to support the business retailers here in the heart of the city, of which I am one, and to make sure that they always have a voice on issues affecting Galway City as a whole.

What is your vision for Galway?
My vision is to see Galway remain the premier city in the west of Ireland for business, tourism and culture. I believe this requires the development of Galway port and the area surrounding it, as well as a more proactive approach from our City Council to support and nurture retail business in the heart of Galway City

To see it become a leading retail centre in Ireland and an acclaimed destination in Europe because of its attractiveness and points of difference to other cities.

O'Brien's Newsagents, William Street, a family-run business established in 1980.   I also represent the mindset of small scale retailers.

Why are you involved with the GCBA committee?
I am proud of this city and all that it represents.   Galway is a national brand that other cities aspire to.   I was invited to join GCBA with the intention of protecting and enhancing that brand. This has implications for traffic, sport, entertainment, policing and business in general.

What is your vision for Galway?
Galway, in the future, should be a city which people want to visit, repeatedly, and live in.  Shoppers will be able to commute with ease in a pleasant and safe environment. Galway must enhance its reputation as a 12-month destination with a municipal stadium and a large concert venue. The roll out of Christmas lights and the Christmas Market must be the best in Ireland.

Why are you involved with the GCBA committee?
I believe that all businesses should be involved in local business organisations. The organisation promotes business and protects the interests of business in the city centre and is therefore vital for the city centre’s continued success.

What is your vision for Galway?
My vision for Galway is for the city to grow to become the third largest city in the Republic of Ireland.
